Hawkstone Park Follies, Shrewsbury

Hey everyone!

In my effort to get the kids outdoors as much as possible, I wanted to share some of the more unique places we explore.

First up, is Hawkstone Park Follies near Shrewsbury, Shropshire.

I came across this place in a Facebook group and, as usual, didn't research it much before deciding to visit. When we arrived, I was completely surprised by how incredible it was!

It is £9.50 per person (little ones go free). The car parking was free.

I thought it was really well done, striking a perfect balance between commercial amenities and natural beauty. There’s a small shop, a café, and a spot to buy ice cream. You start at the bottom, receiving a map highlighting key places along the trail. The trek isn’t wheelchair accessible, and some sections can be quite challenging. I wouldn't recommend it if you’re not in reasonable physical shape. If you have little ones, be prepared to carry them at times. However, there are plenty of benches and resting spots along the way. We took our time, with lots of breaks.

It was a real adventure. All my kids came - aged 20, 18, 14, and 11 years - and all thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

There are three trails to choose from—one takes an hour, another 2.5 hours, and the longest is 3 hours. I’d highly recommend the 3-hour trail since it offers the most to see. If you're spending the day there, you might as well make the most of it. You’ll come across monuments, towers, bridges, caves, and so much more along the way!

The Grotto at the top is incredible, and the views are breathtaking. There are also toilets and a spot to buy ice cream, plus a giant wooden chair perfect for photos!

If your legs are tired, you can take the quick route back down through the Grand Valley.

All in all, an unexpected, fantastic day out! We all said we would go again.

Have you ever visited?
